5th Grade Math: 5th graders watched a Khan Academy film today to demonstrate multiplication of decimals. They received a big hint on the problem of the week, as well, which is due tomorrow in addition to the homework that can be downloaded on Monday's blog.
4th Grade Blue Group: We began working with fractions today using pattern blocks to build conceptual understanding. Students are learning to represent equivalent fractions by trading for different shaped blocks to cover the same area of a figure. The pattern blocks also help students determine common denominators in order to add and subtract unlike fractions by trading in for the same color block.
4th Grade Purple Group: We started our new unit on fractions and decimals today. Students shaded 4x6 rectangular "sandwiches," to split them in to halves, fourths, eighths, thirds, and sixths.
