Happy Weekend- PRACTICE YOUR LINES AND SONGS!

THIS Thursday and Friday is the overnight trip. Please review the packing list and  We'll be busy with play rehearsal, prop making, and getting together costumes next week!

4th Grade Math:  Students are working on their  Dream House Project this week.  Students who are not caught up have a goal is to draw out the 4 required rooms and record the dimensions and cost on the budget update sheet.  They may move onto planning the special room, but should not complete "Parts 1, 2 or 3" in the packet just yet.  Our next Math class is Monday, when we will resume work on the floor plans.

Summer Math Review: If you are looking for summer math resources for your student, the following is a link to workbooks designed for review of concepts in mathematics by grade level.  Each section has explanations and examples designed to help students review material at their grade level.  The pages are set up to not be overwhelming, and generally focus on one concept at a time.

Sneak Peak Day:

Today, Strawberry had the pleasure of inviting Temescal third graders to experience some of our math and writing exercises. Students worked in pairs to determine the probability of rolling two die. They then used the data from their probability rolls to design a Gold Rush board game! 

A game of Odds and Evens.

After snack, Strawberry and Temescal students used lines from books and newspaper headlines as prompts to begin creative writing.

Each Strawberry student received a very official looking script this morning for them to begin rehearsing on their own. They went through and highlighted their lines, as we'll begin rehearsing next week! There is so much excitement around the acting, prop making, and costume designing! We had a special visit from Kim and Zaq this afternoon to help the students rehearse the songs that they will be including into the performance! We've got some work to do in the voice projection, but things are sounding good so far!

This afternoon we finished our read through of our Oregon Trail script. We're all excited to get this play up and running and to begin practicing! 

We had a special acting workshop from the Berkeley Repertory Theatre workshop.  Reggie taught Strawberry Creek the essential acting tools. Through a series of exercises, students practiced creating scenes that conveyed particular relationships, places, and conflict.

Today was full of measurement in math. Some students measured small items such as buttons, dimes, and keys, while others worked on measuring different traits (hand span, head circumference, how tall they could reach). We'll continue to focus on different units of measurement throughout the week. 

It was an exciting day in Strawberry Creek! We worked on painting our keepsake boxes and finally casted our Oregon Trail play! After casting different characters, we did a read aloud of the rough draft of the script. While there are still edits to be made, it is playing out to be a very entertaining play!

Math Club: In math club, which was all girls today, many students engaged in a series of puzzles using 0-9 number tiles, while others solved algebraic and computational problems involving air travel.  A few students gave the math game 24 a try. Final math club of the year will be on June 5, in two weeks.

In 4th Grade Math today the students learned about Gallon Man and measured in cups, pints, quarts, gallons and eventually teaspoons and Tablespoons.
