What a big past few weeks and what a terrific year.  Thank you for having wonderful children.  This was truly a wonderful year.  This class is so caring and motivated.  Have a pleasant summer and keep in touch.

Biographies and Writer's books:  There are only a few items we are keeping for progress report writing purposes, as we have already sent home the portfolios.  We have most of the student's writer's books, biography report and research folder, and a few math assessments.  Please look for an email to let you know when these items are ready to be picked up next week.  If you can not get to them next week we will hold on to them for the summer (or place them in the main office if there is space there).

Thank you Strawberry students and families! This has been a terrific year filled with unforgetable moments and smiling faces. Thank you for welcoming me into your classroom and your communities. I feel truly blessed to have been a part of something so incredible for the past year. The students of Strawberry Creek have taught me more than I could have ever taught them and for that I am forever grateful. I hope to keep in touch with you all via email or letter writing (I love a handwritten letter!). Please have a wonderful and safe summer! I'll miss you all so much!

Only one more day! Yikes!

Well, after a very successful performance last night, Strawberry students reveled in the classroom calmness (or what calmness still exists in the last week of school) without rehearsal, running lines, prop making, and box painting.

We headed over to the Chaparral house with our Laurel Creek buddies to sing a couple of songs to the elderly residents that live there. It was great to see Strawberry and Laurel students singing together to help brighten the days of the seniors at the Chaparral house!

After lunch we watched Bridge to Terabithia and compared the events and imagery in the movie to what was expected based on the book (read in class this Spring).

Tomorrow will be a bittersweet day! It will be fun-filled but the goodbyes will be hard! Have a great night and see you tomorrow.

Bring your KNITTING needles back to school!

During our Oregon Trail study many students began knitting projects, and may have taken them home to work on. We need to collect the knitting needles and any yarn remaining.  Students should bring in their knitting intact, and we can help tie off safely.

7:45 - 8:00 - Slide Show

8:00 - 8:30 - 5th grade tributes.

Our goal is to end before 8:30

8:30 - EVERYONE: props back to classroom and potluck clean-up!

Full Play Run Through Tomorrow!

4th Grade Math:  Don't forget to bring you DREAM HOUSE project to school TOMORROW. The final project is due TOMORROW and we'll be presenting them as a class on Thursday. No math class on Wednesday.

REMINDER: Strawberry Creek's End of the Year Performance is THIS WEDNESDAY, JUNE 12th at 6pm! We'll have a potluck and tributes to our 5th graders!

As we near our performance date, Strawberry Creekers are really throwing themselves into the play rehearsals. We ran through scenes 1,2, and 6 today and will hopefully get through the whole play tomorrow!

We Made It!

A few photos below.  This is just a quick note to let you know that lost & found items will be in the classroom tomorrow.  We will rehearse the play, starting with scene 6 (practice your lines).

Don't forget:  Wednesday night, 6:00-8:30 is our potluck, performance and 5th grade tributes!

Photo below: Inside the snow sheds at Donner Pass.  The snow sheds protected the transcontinental railroad from as it crossed the Sierras.  This section along the slopes above Donner Lake has been decommissioned, and is open  to the public.  The current rails, active at all times of the day, have been rerouted in a 5 mile stretch directly through the mountain.

 Leaving the snow sheds and tunneled mountain side.  The snow sheds were originally built from wood, but were replaced with concrete at some point.  The intricately laid stone walls built by Chinese workers are still standing.

Finally, the time has come! TOMORROW IS THE OVERNIGHT! Please (PLEASE!) make sure you are here with all of your things (sleeping bag, day pack, overnight bag, etc.) ready to go by 8:00am. We are getting in cars and departing TBS by 8:15am.

Items not to forget:

• 2 filled water bottles
• batteries for your flashlight
• sleeping bag
• day pack for hikes

And, why not bring your script to practice during the drive?!

Other HOMEWORK
4th Grade Math:  Students are working on their  Dream House Project this week.  Most students made the first deadline requirements, but some brought it home tonight to work on.  PLEASE remind your child to bring the project back tomorrow.  We will work on it in class.

Math Club: The last day of 3rd-5th grade Math Club saw many returning members and quite a few new 3rd and 4th graders as well.  Students engaged with Strimko & Mondrianize-It puzzles, experimented with Ring-a-ring of Numbers, or played the game Odd Tic Tac Toe.  Logic puzzles continued to be hugely popular with the students--some took packets home, and I recommend the Perplexor series for those who would like to continue working on them over the summer. Too bad we had a shelter-in-place drill and missed out on our planned game of Skunk.  But we did celebrate with math cupcakes, and successfully solved the very real life problem of sharing 13 cupcakes among 15 students!

How to practice your lines for the play:  Have a partner read the lines just before yours to learn your cues.  Practice being expressive!
