Life on the Oregon Trail Begins...

Homework:
4th Grade Math: Mixed and Improper Fractions - work from class (complete page you are on and at least one more).  Optional: multiplication facts practice
5th Grade Math: Math packet

Wordly Wise:  This week, students have set goals in Wordly Wise, and should spend some time each night working toward that goal (however, priority tonight goes to the journal).  They will also have more time in class, and should bring the book to school each day.

Remember to bring in any spare change or new/lightly used dog supplies for our Muttville donations!

June 12: Potluck & Performance of Learning
The evening itinerary as it stands for now:
6:00 - 6:45 Family Potluck at the Strawberry Classroom
6:45 - 7:15 Performance in the Depot
7:15 - 7:30  Slide Show
7:30 - 8:00 Celebration of 5th graders moving up
8:00 - 8:30 (Flex time - in the event the student performance runs longer)

At this time, the plan is that students will not need to stay after school (as we did last year), but should arrive by 6:00. Please keep an eye out for opportunities to help set up and clean after the event.
This is a family event.

Today was a busy day in Strawberry! We began our morning immediately with a bread baking group for our Life on the Oregon Trail unit. Throughout the coming weeks, students will be working in different groups to partake in activities that were a part of the every day lives of the pioneers on their way out West! They'll be cooking, knitting, making wooden boxes, learning folk songs, and canning fruit preserves. Our cooking adventures led us to making Salt-Rising bread and homemade butter! While the bread didn't rise much and was a little dense (or very dense!), it was good learning lesson for students-- even if food didn't always come out as planned, it was all they had! Tomorrow we'll try our luck with a different starter and bread recipe to attempt a "fluffier" bread. In carpentry, students began sawing the wood for the personal boxes that they will be creating and personalizing. We had a special guest knitter in Strawberry today, Ann, who helped our experienced and novice knitters start a knitting project.

We are anxious to keep you all updated with our life on the Oregon Trail!
