Everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy the smooth ride to Sacramento and exploring the railroad museum. A highlight of the visit is the connection to our recent look at the U.S. transcontinental railroad which started in Sacramento. On our overnight in June we will even visit the location one of the large dioramas of the Sierra crossing is based upon, Donner Pass. A BIG thank you to Mitch, Don and Randy for spending the day with us on Amtrak and visiting the railroad museum in Sacramento. Please see the slide show from our trip on the side bar of the blog. Compliment from Amtrak: After serving 21 students in small groups, in between other passengers, (which was a constant stream of business for 45 minutes at least) the train Cafe attendant had only kind words for our kids. He wanted to know what school we were, and told me they were possibly the most polite school group he has encountered. Great job Strawberry! A side note - another group in the car with us left their section a mess. It is easy to understand why our kids impress folks wherever we go. They are responsible and polite.
Read-A-Thon
We had a wonderfully donut filled day of reading and relaxing. Thanks to Moira for organizing and setting up, and all the families who contributed to the morning food and drinks spread. Students curled up in sleeping bags and forts to read while munching on treats. We read a couple of chapters of Bridge to Terabithia and played a game of Wells Fargo at the park before recess. The end of the day brought more reading, a spring cleaning of the cubbies, choice time and a stuffed animal sharing!
