Walk-A-Thon Envelopes: Envelopes were distributed to students today to begin collecting money for the Walk-A-Thon. In addition to their donation envelopes, students are also coming home with Thank You cards to hand to donors. Students are to give the Thank You cards to the donor AT THE TIME OF THE DONATION. Unfortunately a typo on the cards lists the incorrect class for sponsoring Muttville. The students can write in our class name.

Walk-A-Thon: May 17th, 2013.
As you may know, our class has developed partnership with Muttville, which helps senior dogs.
We are raising money with the second annual TBS Walk-a-Thon, which will be held on Friday, May 17.
Our students will look for donors sponsor them for walking to the ECC and back, in one lump sum (not by the mile or minute). We want to encourage children to ask family members, friends, and neighbors for donations, as well as for children to donate their own money (if they have any) to support their cause. Of course we want kids to feel comfortable, not pushed. This is an opportunity for them to have power, to make a difference, and to feel good about helping a cause they care about!
Instructions for Collecting Money
1. Students are encouraged to ask family members, friends, and neighbors for donations, and donate their own money, if they have it. Consider asking family or friends who don’t live locally to be sponsors.
2. The student should give the donor a thank you card (provided in this envelope) at the time they collect the donation, and put the money in their envelope. If the donation is solicited from a distance, the thank you card can be mailed. Checks should be made out to “The Berkeley School,” with “Walk-a-thon” in the memo line.
3. Students bring their money back to school in their envelopes. Student can bring their empty envelope back home with more cards, if necessary, to collect more donations.
4. Donations should be collected by the date of the Walk-a-thon, Friday, May 17.

In Math Club today, we prepared for summer museum visiting by looking at some algebraic problems comparing whether it was a better deal to buy monthly individual passes, monthly family passes, or individual tickets in the Digging Dinosaur problems. Others looked at today's Math Club puzzles, or played different variations of Math War. A few students made up their own math games to play. All the variations of Math War can easily be played at home with a simple deck of cards.
