Math Talks and Breathing Machines!

Homework:
4th Grade Math: Fact page (assessment today - so reduced homework)
5th Grade Math: Math packet

Science:
Respiratory system reading and vocabulary questions.

Please remember to bring in any SPARE CHANGE for our Muttville donation jar!

Math: Math class started off with a lively number talk. Students practiced different ways to make the number 369. After working on their own for a couple of minutes, students shared the different ways they figured out how to make the magic number of 369.

Class Meeting: Today we began our preparations to help our walk-a-thon organization, Muttville. We will be holding a spare change drive in Strawberry Creek in hopes of raising money to buy dog supplies such as leashes, collars, bowls, and dog beds. The students have also decided to talk to the other classes at TBS to put a call out for any new or lightly used dog supplies. Groups of students made signs to put around the school and classrooms while other students wrote a script to help prepare them for presenting to other classrooms. On top of everything else, Strawberry Creek has chosen to make homemade dog treats that are especially for senior dogs!
Writing speeches sure is exhausting!
Making pumpkin dog treats!

Making signs!

Oregon Trail: Families had to make a big decision today on their Oregon Trail journey. After coming upon a beautiful water spring, family members had to discuss and decide on whether to drink the water from the lake where people and animals were swimming, or to hike to the source and fill up their drinking keg with fresh water.

Science: Students worked in groups to make a breathing system representing the lungs, rib cage, trachea, and diaphragm. Using the diaphragm (balloon) to change the air pressure, students explored what would happen in the airway was blocked, if a lung collapsed, or if someone had two perfectly healthy lungs.
