Happy Monday

Today the students made their reading log for in class reading, and entered their first book to the list. During reading workshop for the next few weeks the students will be reading chapter books at their Just Right Level. Most students were familiar with this idea, and shared different ways to tell if a book is "just right." Later this week in reading conferences with a teacher the students will get a chance to read passages aloud and discuss character, plot and setting, and how they made their selection of books.

From last week's study of world maps we are now honing in on California. Today was an overview of the geography of California, and how to interpret the elevation key of our large classroom map. The Central Valley played a key part of our conversation. This week is a great time to share with your child what you enjoy about the geography or resources of this state, and/or ask your child what they are learning, such as, "How do people use the Central Valley?"

In math, fourth graders participated in a math workshop with 4 different kinds of stations with manipulatives.  In fifth grade math, students are working on finding factors.  Check out the Cerrito Creek blog here.

Specialist classes begin this week. Today the class went to PE at the park.
