Thursday Math Homework and Reminders

Reminders:

• Please fill out the Online Parent Survey by tomorrow.  Your child should have given you a paper copy if you prefer to write your answers.
• Ask your student if they have shared their Summer Artifact yet--if not, please make sure they bring it to school, and practice a talk (one minute or less).
• Remember to turn in the family Homework Strategy assignment!
• Back to School night is next Thursday evening, Sept. 22.  There is no childcare, so please make arrangements ahead of time.

Homework:

• Fourth grade math: both sides, due Monday, Sept. 19
• Fifth grade math:  Wednesday-Friday packet, last part due tomorrow.

This morning in math, fourth graders finished work stations and assessments today, and continued work making arrays of different numbers.  The dimensions of arrays of a number (the amount of rows and columns) correspond to the factors of the number.

Fifth graders employed the Sieve of Eratosthenes to find all the prime (and composite) numbers up to 100. They wrote definitions in their math notebooks for prime and composite, played a related game called Factor Captor, and continued work on a series of number puzzles, in which four clues lead to a specific number. Yesterday students "mapped" the classroom, placing signs pointing to the location of places inside and outside of California in the correct location by the compass.
