Fourth grade math homework, due Thursday
Purple group: Complete JUMP packet
Blue Group: Shark Attack homework due Thursday.
Fifth grade math
Here is tonight's homework. No POW this week.
4th Grade Blue Group: Our warm up today was looking at function "machines." Numbers go into the "machine" and are changed by a mystery function that remains the same for a set of input numbers. The students solve for the function by analyzing the input and resulting output. Next, they apply the function to other ingoing numbers, and lastly reverse the process, using an output number to solve for what the input was originally. Students must work through various strategies to determine the best process to use.
We also continued with fractions today, and referred to our function machine work as we practiced taking the fraction of a number. For example, 1/3 of 6. The students use the denominator to break 6 into thirds (3 sets of 2) to determine what a third of 6 is.
Writing Project
Students have been working in independent writing recently. Below are some of the kids outside working on an "adopt a spot" writing project with Stephen.
