- Drivers needed! Our field trip to Marshall Gold Discovery state park in Coloma on Friday, May 4, from 8:00am-5:00pm, depends on having enough drivers. This trip will be a real highlight of the year, including panning for gold. Many thanks to Amelia, Aya, Max, and Milo's families for volunteering to drive. Please let us know if your family can drive to make this trip possible.
- Step Up Day: Plans are coming together for Step Up day on Wednesday, May 2, when 5th graders get to visit the 6th grade for the morning, and 3rd graders visit Strawberry. Stay tuned for more information soon.
- Spring Performance: Wednesday, May 23rd at 6:30pm in the Depot, the Strawberry class will perform our version of By the Great Horn Spoon. Rehearsal will be 3:30-6:30pm that day.

Blue Group Homework: Sharing 24 division/fractions. Please note that problem #4 asks the student to draw the fractions from problems 1, 2 & 3 inside the rectangle. Hint: the number of marbles can be shown as number of grid squares.
Fifth grade Math
After bouncing some balloons around to warm up (see the photo above) and practice factors, multiples, and decimal conversions, students found their partners for the week. They do this with a structured mingle in which they have to find a Tuesday partner, for example, who ate the same thing they did over break. Thursday is someone you saw over the break, etc. It's a nice way to give students some social time that is also productive for our math class. They played a game of war with decimal cards, in which they deal two cards to each player, and the player with the highest sum wins. They did some independent work on adding decimals and ranking decimal numbers. Here is tonight's homework. No POW this week.
Fourth grade math
Purple group: Our warm up, the Magic Function Machine, had students figuring out and making algebraic rules to see what happened to an input (x) to create an output (y). Then we discussed our question of the day: How can we compare fractions? We compared fractions with equal denominators, and students noticed that as the numerator increases, the fraction increases in value. Then we compared fractions with equal denominators: in this case, as the denominator increases, the fraction decreases in value. Students also shared ways to remember the greater than and lesser than symbols, and contemplated the question, how many fractions are between two other fractions?
Blue Group: Today we revisited work from before the break showing fractions in rectangular arrays. Students also began work on dividing 24 items to solve story problems similar to tonight's homework.
