graders continued their work with multiplication expressions: what are
five other ways to state 24 x 64? They will do a page of ERB prep along
with a TERC worksheet each night this week.
By the Great Horn Spoon script writing brainstorm
This morning small groups of 3 students met to brainstorm for a script for their section of By the Great Horn Spoon. Each group was assigned 2-3 chapters of the book, but in many cases students had ideas of changes to make to include new characters or ideas. Students will continue this work as homework, then meet again Wednesday morning to continue writing their scripts.
Fourth grade math
Purple group: For our warm up today, students learned graphing on a coordinate grid, with coordinate pairs indicating the x (horizontal) and y (vertical) axis. A handout of the warm up is here for those who were absent. We also reviewed comparing fractions, and students took a short assessment. Students practiced representing decimal numbers on 10x10 grids; then one group worked on a JUMP Packet about tenths and hundredths decimals. The other group worked on word problems requiring decimal addition; the handout is here.
Blue group: Today we reviewed the lesson on decimals with Decimal Dog. Students practiced writing decimal numbers. We moved to comparing value of decimals. many students made the direct connection to fractions in order to compare decimal numbers, and learned to compare place value as another way to compare. From there we learned to line up decimal numbers by place value (stacking numbers) for addition and subtraction.
