The Berkeley School is holding a spare change drive for the people affected by Hurricane Sandy. Please feel free to bring in any spare change to add to our classroom jar!
In math this morning we reviewed simple division and played "Leftovers". Students worked in pairs and counted out 21 pennies. They rolled the dice and then divided 21 by whatever the die landed on. The player then banked any remainder, or "leftover" pennies. The person with the most pennies at the end won.
We extended our discussion on Multiple Intelligences in our Class Meeting today. We looked at the whole class results and then the results grouped by gender. It was very interesting to analyze the different types of intelligences that we have in Strawberry Creek. We then discussed the differences that we all have and how to show compassion and kindness to others that are different. We acknowledged that we all have gifts and challenges and that this is something important to remember.
This afternoon we dove into a deeper understanding of the New England and Middle Colonies. The students worked in groups to read a selection based on various aspects of establishing colonies. Then, as a group, the students had to share their knowledge to the rest of the class and explain what they read. All the groups decided to showcase their knew expertise through short skits. It was amazing to see the creativity and thought that went into each skit. It was a fun way to learn about the Salem witch trials, relationships between colonists and Native Americans, and the tensions amongst the different colonies.
