Word Study Homework: Strawberry students are bringing home their Words Their Way sorts. They should sort the words according to the categories for their respective sort, then write the sort in their spiral notebooks. The title for each book is in black print at the top right of the cover.

Historical Fiction Book Walk: This afternoon Strawberry students perused a selection of historical fiction books we will be assigning to small groups. Each student wrote their preferred books on a corresponding list. By next week we will launch our first book group session!
Botany: Today we discussed transpiration in plants and the function of xylem and phloem to transport water and sugars throughout the plant. We examined stems of plants in the classroom to look for signs of the xylem (tube-like structures) and watched a short video on transpiration. It turned out that stomata in leaves have a role in regulating this system as well by helping to control the amount of evaporation of water from the leaves. Our work culminated with a botany scavenger hunt at Strawberry Creek park.
