Math: Fourth grade mathematicians continued their investigations of polygons and geometry today. Using the Power Polygons, students were challenged to make different shapes, ranging from 3-10 sides! They were also given characteristics of a shape (i.e. a quadrilateral with equal angles but different side lengths) and had to make it with the Power Polygons.
No-Name Calling Week: To continue our discussion of name-calling and teasing, we started off class meeting with a movie clip from the documentary "Let's Get Real". While the entire movie is more appropriate for the older grades, Strawberry Creek watched two accounts of bullying from a boy and a girl. This sparked up a lively discussion about different behaviors that we see in and outside of school. After talking about some things that we noticed in the film, we took the opportunity to walk around and put a mark on behaviors that we have noticed, been a part of, or experienced ourselves (i.e. being teased for being small, overweight, unpopular, etc.). It was a great jumping off point for everyone to talk about things that they do or do not see at TBS.
Cultural Studies: Today's focus was on the Lewis and Clark expedition, specifically the Great Falls. Students read about the obstacles that the Great Falls presented to the Lewis and Clark expedition team, including bugs, snakes, geography, and worn out shoes.
