Homework
4th Grade Math:  Students have different assignments based on where they have gotten to in class.  Some students brought home the perimeter and area perimeter packet from last week (which needs to be completed), others have a different perimeter problem page, while a few others have chosen from work in progress.

Cultural Studies:  Students need to complete the Pioneers in California assignment by Thursday:  chapter and questions.  Goals for this assignment are to write complete sentences (answers should read like informative facts), and check for capitals and punctuation!

Reading:  20 minutes

Field Trip: We still need drivers!   Feb. 5, 8:30-3:30, Muir Beach & Redwood Creek habitat restoration permission slip & waiver.  Please be sure to sign both sides of the form.  The second side is confusing, but follow the arrows.  Thanks!  

Today in Strawberry:  Capitals, capitals, capitals . . .  We are focused on knowing when and where to use capital letters in our writing.  We also reviewed dialogue rules this morning.  The students are writing stories during writing workshop, and are expected to always follow the dialogue and capitalization rules.

Jose' Domingo Peralta paid one more visit today from 1842.  He wanted to show the and explain the system that Mexican citizens followed to get land grants in California approved by the Mexican government.  He showed an authentic map from the time period drawn to indicate what land area they wanted to claim.  Jose' also had copies of maps of the East Bay from 1842 showing the land divisions, Ohlone villages, streams and original shoreline.  Lake Merritt can be seen as the estuary it once was, and Alameda Island is just a shallow mudflat.  This led to reading about the pioneers from the United States in Mexican territory.
