- Families are welcome to attend our Fort Ross Dress Rehearsal this Tuesday, November 8 from 8:45 a.m.-10:00 a.m. Students will need to bring in their costumes that day and each will be presenting information about their historical character.
Current Events:
Stephen led our class in a "See-Think-Wonder" thinking routine this morning to discuss the recent protests and today's strike going on in Oakland. Students shared what they had heard and seen, talked about what they thought it might be about, and asked questions they had--many were very curious and engaged about these issues. We encourage families to talk about these events with their children and share their own views and values about the events going on in our community.
Math:
Fourth grade mathematicians continued their work analyzing data sets based on height. The purple group developed strategies to calculate medians and modes, and what these kinds of statistics tell us. They also started an assessment on our class cavity data. The blue group created graphs to compare the first grade and fourth height data.
Fort Ross Journal Making:
Julianne Hughes, our art teacher, and Madeleine Dunphy, Gwen's mother, came in this morning to help students learn how to bind their own journals for our Fort Ross journey. Jeff showed students how to antique their journals using masking tape and shoe polish to simulate a weathered leather journal. Students dived into the work with gusto, and enthusiastically finished work sewning their Fort Ross bags as well.
