Whoops! In the flurry of talking about our overnight at the end of the day we forgot to discuss wearing old clothes or bringing an large old shirt to wear tomorrow as mentioned in the email from last week. We will be doing our main painting tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday - although not all kids will paint each day.

Walk-a-thon Day!
We had a very successful walk-a-thon today. Everyone was pumped to support their organizations and walk together as a community. The weather was perfect and everyone had a blast! Thank you for your commitment and support throughout these past few months of Muttville overdrive! Strawberry Creek raised over $1,000 in donations alone and we have yet to total our spare change jar. We are so very proud of all the Strawberry Creek students that have worked so hard to raise awareness about senior dogs and the work that Muttville is doing! We've got some really generous kids in our classroom!
June 6-7 Sierra Trip: Please keep an eye out on Monday for the packing list, field trip permission form and information for chaperones (and all adults to read) that will be coming home Monday. As always, the info will be posted on the blog and emailed.

Walk-a-thon Tomorrow!
There is no homework due to the Walk-a-thon tomorrow.
WALK-A-THON TOMORROW! Please bring in all collected donations for Muttvile!
ALL K-8 students will walk from the University campus to the ECC campus, where they'll be greeted by ECC students serving lemonade; then they'll walk to Ohlone Park, where they'll eat lunch, play games, and and make art. They'll then return to the University campus for reflection before dismissing at the usual time. Please make sure your child is at TBS on time (and in proper walking attire!) so that we can get our Walk-a-thon shirts sorted and get ready for the 9 am assembly.

Painting Next Week: Next week we will be painting the keepsake boxes we have been working on using latex and acrylic paints. The first bit of painting will be the most treacherous for our clothing. It would be best for your child to wear clothing that can handle a paint stain or two. You may also send an old, large shirt with your child to act as a smock they can put on, or if you have an apron . . .
I will do my best to prepare the space for the least amount of paint issues, but it is bound to happen, and is a hazard of the creative process. We will be painting on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Today groups of student presented some of their findings from readings about the Native American and African American experience during the Westward expansion.
As a part of our "Life on the Oregon Trail" activities, students made jam and pioneer beans today!

Oregon Trail families met this morning to discuss their future out West. They had to make decisions about where to settle down and build their lives. Many families contemplated going back home. Some had to come to a compromise of what to do for a living, and many had to think about how to be successful with all this new open land! Families will share their decisions and fates with one another during our scheduled "Summer Reunion of 1946" later this week.
This afternoon we continued our carpentry work and knitting. Students also made "hard tack", a cracker like snack that pioneers took with them on their journey to satisfy hunger cravings during times of scarce food. They may have looked like pita chips, but they sure didn't taste as good!
